The latest on Depay & Garcia’s Barcelona registration ahead of La Liga opener

The latest on Depay & Garcia’s Barcelona registration ahead of La Liga opener

A fresh insight into the registration process for Barcelona summer additions Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia has, on Friday, been forthcoming online.

Messi moves on

La Liga heavyweights Barca have taken centre stage in the European media throughout the summer to date.

The chief reason for this, of course, comes in the form of the departure of long-time captain and talisman Lionel Messi.

Just hours after it had been widely reported that a contract agreement between the two parties was close, the Blaugrana, last Thursday, released a statement, admitting that they had essentially been left with no choice but to part with the club’s greatest-ever player.

This came on the back of ‘financial and structural obstacles’ laid in the path of the Catalans by none other than Spanish football authorities La Liga.

Depay latest

Messi’s exit, however, marks only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the drama to have unfolded at the Camp Nou of late.

Remarkably, amid a financial crisis stemming from years of poor decisions on both the transfer and contract fronts, Barcelona have been unable to register a number of the club’s summer additions to Ronald Koeman’s squad for La Liga.

To this point, none of Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia or Sergio Aguero, all of whom made the move to Catalunya as free agents, have been signed up to feature in league action for their new club.

The case of the latter can be excused for the time being, with Aguero having been ruled out for around ten weeks owing to a calf injury.

Depay, though, has shone throughout pre-season, with boss Koeman no doubt desperate to have his fellow countryman at his disposal when the Blaugrana get their La Liga campaign underway in a meeting with Real Sociedad this Sunday.

If the latest word stemming from the Spanish media this afternoon is anything to go by, though, then neither Koeman, nor the club’s supporters, need fret.

As per Sport journalist Toni Juanmartí, citing reliable outlet Cat Radio, Barcelona intend to register both Depay and Eric Garcia to the club’s domestic squad at some point on Saturday.
