The latest on chances of Billy Gilmour returning to Chelsea in January

A fresh insight into Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour’s situation at Norwich City has been forthcoming on Monday.

Canaries switch

Scottish international Gilmour of course sealed a departure from Stamford Bridge earlier this summer.

After being deemed surplus to requirements for the season ahead owing to Saul Niguez’s talents being added to a midfield core of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the 20-year-old was farmed out on loan to Norwich City.

Gilmour’s Carrow Road switch came amid the assumption that the youngster would quickly secure for himself a regular place at the heart of the Canaries’ midfield, to add considerably to a haul of just 11 Premier League appearances.

And, over the early weeks of the campaign, this looked set to prove the case.

Gilmour was afforded starts in four of Norwich’s first five league outings, earning rave reviews for a string of standout displays at the heart of Daniel Farke’s midfield.

In turn, it has come as something of a surprise to the Chelsea man, of late, glued to the bench in east Anglia.

Gilmour has not even managed to make it onto the pitch in any of the last three Premier League gameweeks, despite his club continuing to struggle in their efforts to beat the drop.

‘Happy we have him’

Such woes on the part of the Scot had culminated in speculation of late that Gilmour could even cut his loan stint short, to return to west London in January.

If the latest comments on the part of his current manager are anything to go by, however, then such a development appears altogether unlikely.

Speaking to the media on the back of Norwich’s 0-0 stalemate with Brighton over the weekend, Daniel Farke was asked for an update on his midfield talent’s situation.

And the Canaries boss was quick to lavish praise on both Gilmour’s talents and mindset, before assuring that there is ‘nothing to worry about’ when it comes to his future at the club:

‘Billy is a fantastic player. A fantastic human being. We can always count on him as he gives 100 per cent. I am happy with him.’

‘Billy wants to play each and every second in each and every game. Even if I substitute him in a friendly in the 89th minute he would be angry. I love this mentality.’

‘He needs to have this mentality. If you love football then you love Billy Gilmour because this guy is a baller. He always wants the ball but he is also a young lad and we have to look out for him.’

‘He also has to improve in a few topics and again it’s not that easy for him with the hype from his home country and lots of praise. I think he’s got a good mindset and he is hardworking on the pitch.’

‘He has unbelievable potential. We are happy we have him and nobody has anything to worry about.’
