An update on Alexandre Lacazette’s Arsenal contract situation has been provided this weekend.
Lacazette’s Arsenal stint
Alexandre Lacazette would join Arsenal from Lyon back in 2017.
The Frenchman has since featured on 170 occasions for the Gunners, scoring 65 and assisting 28 along the way.
Now, though, Arsenal have a decision to make when it comes to the striker’s future.
Lacazette is still a regular feature under Mikel Arteta, and his absence was noticeable in the opening two games of the season, which he missed through Covid-19.
However, the Frenchman is also in the final 12 months of his current contract. This means that Arsenal could lose him for nothing next summer, and that foreign clubs could seal a pre-contract agreement with the striker as early as January 2022.
Of course, the north Londoners could offer him a new deal, but with Lacazette now 30, is that the best idea given their recent track record with poor contract decisions?
Lacazette contract latest
In turn, as mentioned above, an update on the forward’s contract situation has now emerged.
As per ESPN, the former Lyon star has no current offer on the table from Arsenal, despite having entered the final year of his existing deal.
It is added that sources have indicated that no discussions are active, with the Gunners instead choosing to focus their financial resources on other areas of the team.
Despite this, Mikel Arteta stated earlier this week that he is sure Lacazette will be instrumental to Arsenal’s success moving forward:
“He’s fully involved. You give the reasons why he hasn’t played more minutes and he will be back to the form that he can achieve. I am sure that he will be instrumental in our success.”
