The latest Newcastle team news update ahead of West Ham clash

Newcastle vs West Ham

Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off will see Newcastle United play host to West Ham.

The Magpies head into the tie sat just 17th in the English top-flight and still very much in the relegation scrap.

Fulham, who occupy 18th place, are just six points behind Newcastle. And though the North East outfit do have a game in hand, they have some tough fixtures to contend with in the remainder of 2020/21.

West Ham are of course having a superb season and are currently 4th in the Premier League.

Following their clash with the Hammers on Saturday, Newcastle have ties against Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and more as they look to stave off relegation.

Steve Bruce on Newcastle team news

Ahead of Saturday afternoon’s game, Steve Bruce would hold his pre-match press conference on Friday morning.

When doing so, Bruce would provide updates on a number of his players.

Ryan Fraser, as confirmed by Bruce, is still not fit after picking up an issue on international duty:

“Ryan’s not fit. He’s got a groin problem that he picked up when he was with Scotland. It’s been frustrating for him and we’ve never really got him up to speed. It’s been stop start and we’ve not seen the best of him with the problems he’s had.”

The Newcastle boss then gave updates on Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar, with the former currently having to wear a protective boot:

“Jamaal is frustrated as hell and is in a boot unfortunately. He needs time but he hasn’t ruled himself out of the season yet so let’s hope he can have a speedy recovery. Fab is making good progress and is doing very, very well.”
