The latest Newcastle injury news ahead of Southampton

Eddie Howe's side are getting cut adrift at the bottom of the league

Eddie Howe has been speaking to the press ahead of Newcastle’s next outing.

The Magpies will face off with Southampton in a Premier League tie at 7:30 pm UK time on Thursday.

Ahead of the game, Howe discussed a number of topics in his pre-match press conference, including team news.

It was largely positive on that front, however, with Howe stating:

“We’ve got no injuries of major concern. We had a few niggles after the Brighton game but we’ve had Matt Ritchie return to training so that’s a really good thing.”

Howe also spoke about the possibility of rotating his team:

"We'll look to make the right decisions for the team. I think with the run we’ve been on I’ve been reluctant to change things because the team had lacked rhythm for a long time so when you get it you want to try and enhance not disrupt it."

Southampton vs Newcastle

Newcastle head into the Southampton game as one of the Premier League’s most in-form sides.

Only Liverpool, who have won their last five, are actually in better form than Newcastle right now, with the Magpies having won four and drawn one in five.

Such fine form has seen Newcastle climb up to 14th in the Premier League, needing just 12 points from their final 12 league games to reach that magic 40 mark.

Even if Newcastle do not end up with 40 points, though, it is hard to see Burnley, who are currently 18th and seven points behind Newcastle, catching them.

Southampton, meanwhile, are up in 9th having won three, drawn one and lost one of their last five.
