Terrible for Barcelona: Ousmane Dembele ‘does a’ Neymar v Getafe

Barcelona beat Getafe 2-1

It wasn’t the easiest of matches, but Barcelona maintained their 100% record at the start of the season at Getafe on Saturday.

The Catalans came from behind to win the match 2-1.

Getafe took the lead five minutes before the interval with a well-worked team goal, finished by Gaku Shibasaki.

But in the second half, Valverde turned the match with two substitutions.

Denis Suarez equalised for Barcelona following a pull back from Sergi Roberto, while Paulinho bagged the match-winner in the final stages of the game.

Ousmane Dembele ‘does a’ Neymar

But Barcelona’s away win may have come at a major cost to summer signing Ousmane Dembele.

Dembele was signed from Borussia Dortmund in the summer in a deal worth up to £135.5 million.

On Saturday, Dembele made his full La Liga debut for Barcelona at Getafe but the experience didn’t last too long.

The French international lasted just 29 minutes when he pulled up with a hamstring injury.

Coincidentally, Neymar also suffered a similar hamstring injury against Getafe in his first season at the Camp Nou.

And in a spooky turn of events, both Neymar and Dembele both got injured in the 24th minute of the match.

Terrible for Barcelona

After the Getafe match, Barca boss Ernesto Valverde made the following concerning comments about Dembele:

He is going to have to spend some time on the sidelines.

It is a muscle problem. We think it is a tear, but we will do more tests on Sunday.

It is a shame because he was just getting up to scratch with the team’s dynamic. We hope he won’t be out for a long time.

While Barca will be hoping for a quick recovery for Dembele, it’s worth noting that Man United’s Paul Pogba, who suffered a similar injury in last week’s Champions League, is now poised for three months on the sidelines.
