ter Stegen scolds Barcelona fans for Andre Gomes abuse (Video)

Footage of Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen berating the Blaugrana’s fans during their clash with Atletico Madrid yesterday afternoon has come to the fore online today.

Matchup

Barca welcomed the Rojiblancos to the Camp Nou for a top of the table La Liga meeting, with the gap between the two sides having sat at 5 points ahead of kick-off.

A tense yet entertaining affair was subsequently played out, with a stunning Lionel Messi free-kick in the 26th-minute all that separated the Spanish giants at the full-time whistle.

Scolded

While several of Barca’s stars put in impressive performances on the day, one player who was singled out by many of the club’s fans for criticism was Andre Gomes.

Portuguese midfielder Gomes has never fully settled in Catalunya following his arrival from fellow La Liga outfit Valencia in the summer of 2016, with many of the opinion that his leisurely style is not befitting of the brand of football generally on show at the Camp Nou.

Yesterday was a prime example of this, with Gomes, who was introduced as a substitute for the injured Andres Iniesta during the first-half, having struggled to make any meaningful impact on proceedings.

Large sections of the home crowd subsequently turned on the 24-year-old with booing and jeering, actions which did not sit well with Barca goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.

As showcased by the footage below, ter Stegen was left genuinely annoyed by the abuse being directed at Gomes, with the German shot-stopper having turned on the Camp Nou faithful in an attempt to defend his under-fire teammate.
