Burnley vs Southampton
After earning Europa League football in 2017/18, Burnley’s 2018/19 was rather disappointing in comparison.
Sean Dyche’s side would finish the season down in 15th spot.
The Clarets will now begin the 2019/20 campaign at home to Southampton.
Burnley haven’t been too active in the summer window, but they have brought in Jay Rodriguez from West Brom.
As for their opponents on Saturday, Southampton, they finished last season one place below Burnley, and just five points above the relegation zone.
Burnley injury update
Ahead of the game, reliable injury analyst Ben Dinnery has given an update on several Burnley players.
Neither James Tarkowski or Kevin Long featured in Burnley’s last pre-season friendly, which they won 2-0 vs Parma.
However, Dinnery claims that both Long and Tarkowski are available for Saturday’s season opener.
Unfortunately, Dinnery goes on to state that Steven Defour will not be ready, with Robbie Brady the club’s biggest doubt.
Tarkowski (thigh) and Long (groin) are expected to be available for the visit of Saints. Defour (calf) won’t be ready following a no. of niggling setbacks. Robbie Brady is the Clarets “biggest doubt” due to a rib problem which has been bothering him for weeks. #twitterclarets

Burnley also posted on update on Twitter regarding Brady, in which they claimed that he was unlikely to feature due to a hairline crack to a rib.
