Tariq Lamptey fitness latest ahead of Leeds amid claims stopper is on verge of new Brighton contract
Brighton star Tariq Lamptey has taken centre stage in the English media on Thursday evening.
Leeds showdown
The first piece of news to have surfaced surrounding Lamptey pertains to his availability for Brighton’s upcoming meeting with Leeds United.
Graham Potter’s men are set to make the trip to Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, for their latest Premier League outing.
The Seagulls will of course head into proceedings in search of a bounce-back result, having slipped within two points of the English top-flight relegation zone on the back of a 1-0 defeat at Manchester City last night.

As such, as his side go in search of their first league win since November, Potter and co. are no doubt desperate to have as many of the club’s key performers available as possible to face Leeds.
In a post across their social media platforms this evening, however, Brighton confirmed that 5 first-team stars have already been ruled out of contention for Saturday’s clash.
One of the quintet comes in the form of the aforementioned Lamptey, who recently suffered a setback in his efforts to recover from a hamstring issue.
In turn, the former Chelsea man will join Danny Welbeck, Adam Lallana, Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Aaron Connolly in watching on from the sidelines this weekend.

Staying put
The 2nd piece of news centering on Lamptey to have come to the fore this evening, meanwhile, pertains to his future at the Amex.
The explosive full-back has of course represented a rare shining light amid an altogether difficult campaign to date for the seasiders, with his performances of such a high level that they have even given rise to links to some of European football’s heavyweights.
If the latest word doing the rounds in the English media on Thursday is to be believed, however, then Lamptey will be going nowhere, for the time being at least.
As per a report from talkSPORT, the 20-year-old is on the verge of putting pen to paper on a new ‘long-term’ contract with Brighton.
The move on the part of the Seagulls comes not only to extend Lamptey’s stay, but also ‘to give him pay parity with some of the top earners’ in Graham Potter’s squad.
