Social media has exploded into life tonight, on the back of Real Madrid incredibly crashing out of the Champions League at the hands of Ajax.
Real Madrid vs Ajax
Los Blancos welcomed their Dutch opponents to the Bernabeu a short time ago, for the second-leg of the last-16 tie between the clubs.
Real headed into proceedings with qualification firmly in their grasp, on the back of a hard-fought (and largely-undeserved) 2-1 first-leg win.
The European champions, though, did not exactly head into tonight’s matchup in positive form.
After first being ousted from the Copa Del Rey courtesy of a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Clasico rivals Barcelona last week, Real were then put to the sword by the Blaugrana yet again at the weekend, as Barca took another step towards the La Liga title.

Ajax run riot
And the struggles of Los Blancos on all-fronts reached new heights altogether tonight, as, in absolutely stunning circumstances, Ajax emerged from the Bernabeu with a fully-deserved 4-1 victory.
Hakim Ziyech put the visitors in front with just 7 minutes on the clock, before David Neres doubled Ajax’s lead inside the opening 20 minutes, sending the travelling fans into rapturous celebrations:
3/3/18: Southampton 0-0 Stoke
5/3/19: Real Madrid 0-2 Ajax
From battling relegation to tearing apart the Bernabeu.
Dusan Tadic that is obscene! 😱 pic.twitter.com/OuDUCIiCPZ

And Dusan Tadic, who was in irresistible form throughout the 90 minutes in Madrid, made it 3 fifteen minutes into the second-half, with a stunning left-footed finish.
Real looked to have restored some hope of a late-great comeback when Marco Asensio’s pinpoint strike found the bottom-corner in the 70th-minute, but the tie was put to bed once and for all just 2 minutes later, as Lasse Schone’s bending free-kick evaded Thibaut Courtois to nestle in the far corner:

De Jong & Tadic steal the show
As abysmal as Real were in the Spanish capital tonight, Ajax were equally superb, with every one of the Eredivisie outfit’s stars having contributed to a historic team performance.
However, two players stood out in the eyes of many, in the form of Frenkie de Jong and Dusan Tadic.
de Jong, who is of course set to join Real’s Clasico rivals Barcelona in the summer, put in an imperious showing at the base of Ajax’s midfield, looking almost frighteningly-cool and collected when in possession, ruthless when out of it and, all-in-all, dominating a midfield containing both Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.
Frankie de Jong touches the ball and you can see the ball look at him with heart eyes

During the first-half of Real Madrid-Ajax, Frenkie de Jong attempted and completed more passes than any other player on the pitch.

De Jong dominating the Real Madrid midfield. Technical masterclass.

Frenkie De Jong getting a taste of what it’s like to play for Barca, he’s out there treating the Bernabeu like it’s his playground.

Quick reminder to all of you that Frenkie De Jong is coming this summer to play alongside Arthur reincarnated Melo in midfield. Just imagine that duo together bossing the midfield.

Former Southampton man Tadic, meanwhile, put in a creative clinic for the away side, dazzling with stunning runs, an assist of the season contender, and a breathtaking finish to seal Ajax’s advancement to the Champions League’s quarter-finals.

Dusan Tadic looked absolute turd at Southampton and now he’s taking the piss in the Bernabéu.
Football is f*cking wonderful.

I follow @ViasportVeland in this: I have only seen three players really humble Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabéu:

This is by miles the best match of the season.
Last year Dusan Tadic was a rotation option at Southampton. Right now he is eviscerating Real Madrid in the Bernabeu in front of their awful fans.

Tadic with a performance for the ages. Involved in every goal. Definitely an all time great performance

Ramos torn apart
Ajax’s stars were not the only ones to have caught the headlines, though, with Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos having also garnered plenty of attention online tonight.
The Spanish stopper picked up a deliberate yellow card during the closing moments of his side’s first-leg victory in Amsterdam 3 weeks ago, to ensure a clean disciplinary record for what he no doubt thought would be a quarter-final berth.
As such, fans of the ever-controversial Real captain have since been in unforgiving mood:

A fun insult that will be added to this particular injury is that Sergio Ramos will now be out for Real Madrid’s 2019-2020 Champions League opener.

Real Madrid are crashing out of Europe.

Just remember that Sergio Ramos got himself intentionally suspended for this game because he thought the job was already done.
