Suspected package at Old Trafford revealed after Man United v Bournemouth abandoned

Old Trafford evacuated suspicious package

Match Abandoned

Manchester United’s final day of the season game against Bournemouth was abandoned after the club had evacuated half the stadium over a suspicious package.

The game was initially delayed for 45 minutes before the police decided the game must be abandoned amidst a “severe” bomb threat.

The military are on their way with a bomb squad photographed on their way to Old Trafford.

Player turned pundit Stan Collymore shared the details of the suspicious package on Twitter. Truly scary stuff.

Greater Manchester police confirmed they are waiting for military assistance to deal with the package.

Rescheduling and what it means

The Premier League clash between Manchester United and Bournemouth will be rescheduled for “as soon as practically possible”.

If Manchester City secure at least a point away at Swansea City, Louis van Gaal’s side will be unable to secure a top 4 spot and thus will miss out on Champions League football next season.

The FA Cup final against Everton next Saturday makes the re-scheduling somewhat more difficult for the Premier League. Read their statement below.
