A few surprises as the quickest players in the Premier League are revealed

Speed merchants

Opta have revealed the players who have clocked the fasted speeds so far this season.

A few players who you’d expected are named, but there are also some surprises.

Liverpool winger Sadio Mane is 4th on the list, with his fastest sprint recorded at 34.84 km per hour.

Watford signing Kiko Femenia has certainly adapted to the pace of the Premier League. His 35.12 km per hour sprint earns him second place.

First place goes to Kyle Walker. The Man City full-back clocked the fastest time of the season so far at 35.16 km per hour.

Also in the top 10 are Bournemouth duo Ryan Fraser and Josh King.

Big strikers Romelu Lukaku and Saloman Rondon are joint-tenth with N’Golo Kante, while Paul Pogba, Leicester’s Jamie Vardy and Everton’s Dominic Calvert Lewin complete the list.

No Hector Bellerin

While he’s regarded by many as the fastest in the league, certainly the fastest at his club, defender Hector Bellerin has failed to make the cut.

Of course, with just three matches played, it’s still early on in the season. Bellerin will surely feature in Opta’s top 10 as the season progresses.

Another Arsenal speedster, Theo Walcott is also absent. Although he’s probably passed his prime in terms of speed, his agility has been the defining characteristic of his football career.

Liverpool fans will be hoping to see Mohamed Salah and new boy Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain break into the top ten as the season progresses.

Despite being 31, Laurent Koscielny earns his place with his pace. The Arsenal defender has been one of the fastest defenders in the league for the past few seasons.
