Summer move incoming? Real Madrid looking to lower buy-back clause for Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon

Reguilon joins Tottenham

One of Tottenham’s marquee signings of the 2020 summer transfer window saw the Londoners land Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid.

After struggling for minutes in Madrid, the full-back was loaned to Sevilla at the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

The Spaniard went on to enjoy a sensational campaign in Andalusia, notching three goals and five assists in 38 outings across all competitions, whilst also playing a key role in Los Nervionenses clinching yet another Europa League title.

Such impressive displays, in turn, piqued the interest of Tottenham, who signed Reguilon permanently in September of 2020.

Reguilon has since featured on 45 occasions for Spurs. In said games, he has provided seven assists in total.

Real Madrid want Reguilon price lowered

And though he has been slightly poor defensively, Reguilon is still, at present, quite clearly Tottenham’s best left-back.

Now though, recent reports stemming from Spain suggest that Real Madrid could be looking to reunite with their former player.

When Reguilon made the switch from Spurs, it was understood that Real Madrid had an option to buy the full-back back at some point in the future.

Now, as per Sport Witness citing Spanish outlet Defensa Central, said clause will come into effect from next summer.

It is added that the figure Real Madrid need to pay to take the player back is set at €40m, but the La Liga side find the price ‘too high’ as they believe the defender has not made a notable leap during his time with Spurs.

In terms of the fee Real want the buy-back clause to be, SW write that Los Blancos will try to negotiate to lower the price to around €30-33m.
