Steven Gerrard’s stance on taking the Aston Villa job & how much club would have to pay Rangers revealed

Steven Gerrard’s stance on taking the vacant Aston Villa job has been revealed on Tuesday.

Aston Villa sack Dean Smith

Dean Smith would be the latest Premier League manager to be relieved of his duties, with the tactician sacked on Sunday just gone.

Aston Villa confirmed that their boss had left the club, with a search for his replacement underway:

Smith leaves Aston Villa in some pretty poor form. Despite attempting to replace Jack Grealish over the summer with the signings of Leon Bailey, Danny Ings and Emi Buendia, it has so far not worked out too well for the Villians.

After losing to Southampton this past Friday, Villa sit 17th in the Premier League table, on just 10 points from 11 outings.

They also have one of the worst defensive records in the English top-flight at present.

Now, with the international break underway, it seems like a good time for Villa to find a replacement boss.

So far, two of the names most heavily linked have been Steven Gerrard and Ralph Hasenhuttl.

And now, as mentioned above, an insight into Gerrard’s stance on taking over at Villa Park has been provided.

As per the Telegraph:

Steven Gerrard is interested in being Aston Villa’s next manager, with the ambitious Midlands club set to make an official approach to Rangers.

The report adds that Villa have made background checks on Gerrard, who is said to be ready to speak with the club if Rangers grant him permission.

If Villa do indeed poach Gerrard, it is understood that his current deal has a compensation clause of £2m plus.
