Steven Gerrard on Premier League star: “He’s a unique midfielder”

Premier League and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has labelled Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele as a “unique midfielder”.

The Belgian was outstanding against Juventus on Wednesday, despite being unable to swing the result in his side’s favor.

Following a very slow start to the season, the 30-year-old has begun to hit top form for Spurs and is now a pivotal player for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The former Liverpool man believes that Dembele can embarrass you at any point – such is his combination of skill and strength.

Gerrard said:

“He’s a unique midfielder because normally midfielders they try and combine around you with a one-two and then the’ll run.”

“But he can embarrass you by skill and no footballer likes that whether you’re a defender or a midfielder.”

Full-Time: Tottenham (3) 1-2 (4) Juventus

Juventus showed every ounce of their European pedigree to overturn Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 tie in the space of just five minutes.

Goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala cancelled out Heung-min Son’s first-half strike bringing to an end Tottenham’s Champions League dream.

For an hour, Massimiliano Allegri’s side were under the cosh from Spurs, but following a few tactical tinkers by the manager, Juve were able to change the complexity taking full hold of the tie.
