Steven Gerrard explains why he opted to leave Rangers for Aston Villa

Steven Gerrard has recently moved to explain why he opted to leave Rangers for Aston Villa.

Steven Gerrard named as Aston Villa boss

After falling to five Premier League defeats in a row, Aston Villa would part ways with long-time boss Dean Smith earlier this month.

Villa wasted little time in appointing a new boss, naming Steven Gerrard as their new manager last week:

Gerrard explains why he left Rangers for Aston Villa

Gerrard joins Villa in something a rebuilding period. The Midlands outfit sold star man Jack Grealish over the summer and though they have signed Danny Ings, Leon Bailey and Emi Buendia to help replace him, it has so far not worked out too well.

As a result, Villa are sitting 16th in the Premier League, just two points above the relegation zone – leaving Gerrard with a rather large mountain to climb.

Now, after becoming Villa boss, Gerrard has revealed why he opted to leave Rangers for Villa.

The Scottish outfit have been dominating the SPL and also play in Europe on a regular basis, something Villa do not do.

But, when asked why he opted to leave Rangers for Aston Villa, Gerrard stated:

“Aston Villa sells itself, an iconic football club that I know pretty well from the outside. I’m now excited to get involved inside and start building relationships on the training pitch.

“The excitement levels are really, really high. I’m very hungry and ambitious and the start can’t come quick enough.”
