Newcastle come from behind
Newcastle played host to Southampton on Sunday afternoon, as they looked to build on their decent run of form.
The Magpies had lost just one of their last four league ties before kicking off at St James’ Park on Sunday.
But relegation-battling Southampton had also been in pretty decent form prior to taking on Newcastle, going unbeaten in their previous three matches.
It would be Southampton who took the lead on Sunday as well, via an in-form Danny Ings.
However, the North-East outfit dug deep and eventually won the tie 2-1, thanks to late strikes from Jonjo Shelvey and Federico Fernandez.

Bruce on Saint-Maximin
While Newcastle will be pleased with their comeback vs the Saints, they did suffer one blow on Sunday.
Alan Saint-Maximin went down in added time at the end of the tie on Sunday, and looked injured.
It was then reported that the electrifying winger left St James’ Park on crutches with a hamstring problem.

Steve Bruce provided an update on the Frenchman after the tie, but the Newcastle boss stated that he didn’t know how serious it is:
“We don’t know how serious it is. I kick myself if he is out for a long time. The way he pulled up – let’s hope it’s not too serious. He is that maverick free spirit we have to manage. He wanted to play, to be fair to him.”
