Steve Bruce provides Newcastle team news update before Brighton

Steve Bruce provides Newcastle team news update before Brighton

Brighton vs Newcastle

Due to the FA Cup quarter-finals taking place this weekend, there are only a handful of Premier League games scheduled.

One of the more interesting ties comes on Saturday evening as Brighton play host to Newcastle.

The game, though not exactly viewed as a big match on paper, should be an interesting affair, with the result no doubt set to play a big role in this season’s relegation scrap.

Heading into the weekend’s action Newcastle are 17th in the English top-flight.

The Magpies are only two points above the bottom three, though they do have a game in hand on all the sides below them.

As for Brighton, they sit just one point above Newcastle, also with a game in hand on the bottom three.

Neither team is in particularly impressive form of late though. Newcastle are winless in five but have drawn their last three. Brighton, meanwhile, have won just one of their last five league outings.

Steve Bruce on Wilson, Almiron & Schar

Ahead of Saturday’s ‘six-pointer’ Steve Bruce would hold his latest pre-match press conference on Friday.

During the presser, Bruce provided updates on a number of his players.

Firstly, the Newcastle boss hinted that Callum Wilson will likely return during the international break, whilst Miguel Almiron has a chance of featuring on Saturday:

“We still think the international break is the right time for Callum Wilson. He’s well into his rehabilitation and the same goes for Miguel Almirón. We’ll see how he is. Miguel’s got a chance [for tomorrow] – we’ll see.”

Bruce then had this to say on Fabian Schar:

“He’s still recovering. He had an operation on his knee and he’s five or six weeks in. He’s progressing nicely and everything is in place but it’s still too early for him.”
