Steve Bruce deals Newcastle blow with Callum Wilson injury update ahead of Man United

Man United vs Newcastle

Newcastle have, so far, had a pretty underwhelming 2021/22 season.

Steve Bruce’s side began their campaign by blowing a 2-1 lead to eventually lose 4-2 at the hands of West Ham.

This was followed by Aston Villa beating the Magpies 2-0 and Newcastle then crashing out of the League Cup in the 2nd round vs Burnley.

Bruce and co. did earn their first point of the season last time out when they drew with Southampton.

However, the North East outfit still likely feel somewhat aggrieved that they did not come away with all three points on that occasion.

Newcastle took the lead twice in the game, first through Callum Wilson and then via Allan Saint-Maximin in the 91st minute.

But Newcastle would blow their lead twice to eventually settle for a draw following James Ward-Prowse’s’ 96th-minute equaliser.

Newcastle now face the daunting task of taking on a Manchester United side boosted by the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Steve Bruce on Callum Wilson

Ahead of the United tie, which takes place at 3 pm on Saturday, Steve Bruce held his latest press conference on Friday.

During the presser, Bruce would provide an update on Callum Wilson, who picked up a thigh injury vs Southampton last month.

And unfortunately for Newcastle fans, Wilson is set to miss out this weekend, with Bruce not putting a timescale on his return:

“Callum Wilson won’t make the weekend unfortunately with his thigh injury. We’re not going to put a timescale on it. It’s really frustrating for Callum and for us. We’ve just got to give it as long as it needs.”

Bruce did confirm, however, that Miguel Almiron is available for the weekend’s game:
