Steve Bruce confirms Newcastle’s Jetro Willems will miss remainder of season

Everton vs Newcastle

Newcastle United will travel to Everton on Tuesday evening for a Premier League clash.

You can check out 101’s betting tips for the clash here.

The Magpies head into the tie on the back of an impressive 1-0 victory over 4th placed Chelsea.

That hard-fought win put an end to Newcastle’s mini winless run in the Premier League, and saw them move seven points clear of the relegation zone.

It also means Newcastle will begin this week’s league action level on points with Everton.

The Toffees sit 11th in the English top-flight, only above Newcastle on goal difference.

But the Merseyside powerhouse are in much better form than the North East outfit, losing just one of their last five league clashes.

Willems injury update

Steve Bruce would hold his pre-Everton press conference on Monday.

One of the key talking points during the presser was Jetro Willems’ injury.

The marauding full-back has been a pivotal member of Newcastle’s squad this season.

Unfortunately, Willems had to be stretchered off just 12 minutes into Newcastle’s aforementioned victory over Chelsea this past weekend.

And when delivering a fresh update on the Dutchman in his latest presser, Steve Bruce confirmed that Willems has ruptured his ACL, and will miss the rest of the season:

“It’s what we feared. He’s ruptured his ACL and will miss, obviously, the rest of the season. He’s been a very decent player for us and we’ll miss him. We wish him a speedy recovery.”

Willems is, of course, on loan at Newcastle from German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.

And with Willems now set for a substantial period on the sidelines, Bruce confirmed that Frankfurt will have the final say on where/how the defender will be treated.
