Stan Collymore: Man City vs Liverpool
In his weekly column for the Mirror, Stan Collymore has looked at the next week for Man City.
On Wednesday night at Anfield, City take on Liverpool in their Champions League quarterfinal first-leg.
Next weekend in the Premier League it’s the Manchester derby. If the Sky Blues win at Man United, Pep Guardiola’s men will be crowned EPL champs.
‘Man City will beat Liverpool’
Collymore is backing Man City to have an incredible week.
While the Premier League title has been a lock for some time, Collymore believes Man city will beat Liverpool in the Champions League too:
Should they get past Liverpool over two legs, tomorrow and next Tuesday, which I expect them to after extra-time, then they will have reached the Champions League semi-finals twice in three seasons and that will leave the giants of Europe little choice but to sit up and take note.
I’ve been critical of the way City have gone about achieving their recent success but I’ve also been quick to praise Guardiola for the things he has done well.
And I have to say he deserves a hell of a lot of credit for the way he has improved some of his players, not least Raheem Sterling, who also deserves a pat on the back.
Liverpool midfield problems vs Man City
Jurgen Klopp has some significant midfield injury problems before Wednesday.
Two key players, Emre Can and Adam Lallana, are likely to be out of contention.
Lallana, of course, could be out for the rest of the season following an injury sustained last weekend at Crystal Palace.
As for German international Emre Can, the situation is touch-and-go. He’s nursing a back problem which saw his withdraw from the German national camp.
