Stamford Bridge legend returns to Chelsea

Welcome return

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard returned to the Cobham training centre earlier this week.

The Stamford Bridge legend was helping out with the Under-18’s training session, undoubtedly an invaluable experience for many of the youngsters.

The former England midfielder was helping out his old teammate Jody Morris, who manages the side.

Lampard is the Blues’ all time leading scorer with 211 goals, although his time at the club ended on a somewhat sour note.

Lampard’s final Premier League club was Man City, a move that puzzled, if not upset, many at Chelsea.

The 39-year-old retired from football last year following a spell in the MLS with New York City FC.

Zappacosta’s first session

Having missed out on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who favoured a move to Liverpool, Chelsea signed Italian right-back Davide Zappacosta.

The 25-year-old will be looking to make his first appearance in a Chelsea shirt when they face Leicester this weekend.

Zappacosta, who signed from Torino, had his first training session with his new teammates earlier this week, following the international break.

Zappacosta is likely to be second choice to Chelsea’s right-wingback Victor Moses, at least initially.

There could also be a first Chelsea appearance for Danny Drinkwater, against his former side. The central midfielder was a deadline day signing and joins as a replacement for Nemanja Matic.

Eden Hazard is set for his first start of the season following a successful return to football with Belgium. Hazard is yet to feature for his club side this season after picking up an injury at the back end of the last campaign.

Hazard bagged a goal and an assist in a 9-0 thrashing over Gibraltar during the international break.
