Islam heading for England?

One rumour is getting plenty of attention in Portugal over the weekend, as the Iberian press link Tottenham with a Sporting CP star.

Over the past few seasons, ever since he burst onto the international scene at the 2014 World Cup, Algerian striker Islam Slimani has been linked with a move to the Premier League.

So far the forward has stayed at Sporting, and his reputation has grown as he’s scored regular goals in the Portuguese top flight.

This season, Slimani has bagged 30 goals in 43 games in all competitions.

While the likes of Crystal Palace and Everton have been linked to the striker in the past, the two teams currently thought to be leading the pack are the EPL’s top two: Leicester and Tottenham.

Portuguese press concur

Despite Leicester winning the league, both A Bola and O Jogo have claimed this weekend that Spurs are in pole position.

Spurs are thought to be willing to pay 30 million euros for the 27-year-old attacker. That would meet the striker’s release clause.

Slimani, who has been at Sporting since 2013, has a contract until the summer of 2020.
