Tottenham have this evening provided an update on the fitness of midfielder Harry Winks, ahead of the club’s meeting with Southampton.
Spurs visit Southampton
Jose Mourinho’s men are set to get their FA Cup campaign back underway tomorrow afternoon, with a trip to St. Mary’s.
The Lilywhites booked their spot in the competition’s 4th-round last week, with a hard-fought replay victory over Middlesbrough.
After being held to a 1-1 draw at the Riverside Stadium the week prior, early strikes from Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela eventually saw Spurs scrape past a game Boro by 2 goals to 1.
The week since, meanwhile, saw the north Londoners first held to a 0-0 draw by Watford, before narrowly edging past bottom-of-the-table Norwich City in the Premier League.
Tottenham’s victory over Norwich, however, came at a cost.
10 minutes into the second-half, Harry Winks pulled up with a problem, before eventually being forced off.
Speaking after the matchup, Jose Mourinho hinted that his side’s midfield lynchpin would likely be on the sidelines for ‘weeks’:
“It is not a crazy one – hopefully weeks and not months.”
And, as outlined above, Spurs have this evening provided a further update on Winks’ fitness.
Surprisingly, the news appears to be positive, with the capital giants having revealed that the 23-year-old is ‘being assessed’ ahead of their meeting with Southampton.
This would appear to suggest that Winks is in contention to feature at St. Mary’s tomorrow afternoon.
There were also updates forthcoming on long-term injury absentees Ben Davies, Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko:
