Jack Wilshere won’t be going to Russia
Gareth Southgate will officially name his 23 man squad for the World Cup tomorrow but rumours on Tuesday afternoon emerged which revealed that Joe Hart and Jack Wilshere won’t be travelling to Russia.
England have spectacularly failed in previous tournaments such as Euro 2016 where The Three Lions were famously knocked out by minnows Iceland.
Jack Wilshere is a player who often divides opinion but he has proved his doubters wrong this season with a series of fantastic performances for the Gunners.
Wilshere made 38 appearances for Arsenal this season proving that he may not be the injury-prone midfielder that people know him to be.
Did Southgate get it wrong?
If football players were judged solely on statistics, omitting Wilshere from the England squad would make perfect sense.
This season, Wilshere scored just 2 goals and picked up 6 assists for the Arsenal first team.
However, Wilshere has been far more vital to the team than the stats may show.
The 26 year old has been an engine in the Arsenal midfield. He breaks down attacks before starting up new ones. Wilshere is fantastic with the ball at his feet, he is passionate and determined.
Wilshere is also renowned for playing extremely well for the English national team and Southgate may regret not picking Wilshere when push comes to shove.
England fans were not best pleased with Southgate’s decision… and not just Arsenal fans.
How is @JackWilshere not in the squad ?

Not taking @JackWilshere to the world cup is such a mistake, he offers so much in an area where England lack players the most… Midfield. Shocking decision

Fabian Delph in the World Cup England squad ahead of Jack Wilshere are you having a laugh 🤭 as much as I dislike Wilshere and the fact he s more injured then Darren Anderton he s one of England’s best midfielders which doesn’t say much ……..#prayforjack

For me Jack Wilshere would be the first midfielder on the team sheet, the hardest part would be who is even good enough to play next to him!

Will Southgate regret his decision?
Southgate can clearly not please all of the England fans but even the Jack Wilshere haters seem to want him in the squad.
We can only hope that the press have got this wrong and Wilshere is on the 23 man shortlist tomorrow.
