Southgate backs Maurizio Sarri’s treatment of Hudson-Odoi

Sarri & Hudson-Odoi’s relationship

Callum Hudson-Odoi has been a huge talking point at Chelsea this campaign.

The 18-year-old has shown bags of talent in the limited game time he has been granted by Maurizio Sarri.

Hudson-Odoi is yet to start a Premier League game but in the Europa League he has scored four and assisted two in eight appearances.

The Youngster has also out in some decent displays in the FA Cup.

Hudson-Odoi’s performances this season have led to both fans and pundits calling for Sarri to grant him more game time.

Southgate backs Sarri

Despite all the talk in the media, Sarri is not giving Hudson-Odoi the game time he seemingly wants.

The Chelsea youth product even handed in a transfer request in January to try and force a move to Bayern Munich.

While many people seem to think Hudson-Odoi isn’t getting the game time he deserves, England boss Gareth Southgate has backed Sarri’s treatment of the winger.

Southgate believes Hudson-Odoi is getting enough game time for now and his development doesn’t need to be rushed:

“If you look at number of appearances, he has actually been on the field quite a lot.

“And I know from when we were talking with the club earlier in the season how much faith Maurizio has in him. He has got some outstanding players just in front of him but he’s slowly getting more and more game time.

“So, I think he’s maturing well. There doesn’t need to be a rush for him. We’ve seen that with Marcus Rashford and his development.

“He’s getting first-team football and that’s important. For us, I think his progress is good.”As quoted by the Metro.

This will likely come as great news for Chelsea fans because if Hudson-Odoi knows he can still get in the England side despite not starting every week, he may be more inclined to remain at Stamford Bridge.
