Southampton vs Watford betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Southampton vs Watford prediction: Southampton 0-1 Watford

Watford will be looking for a third win in four matches, but their wild inconsistency this season makes it difficult to predict which Watford will turn up.

Southampton are without a win in their last seven Premier League matches and head into the game just one point above the drop zone.

Watford have conceded just five goals in six matches on the road this season.

Southampton vs Watford: Who will win?

Watford look good value at 19/10 compared to Southampton’s odds of 11/8. The draw is priced at 23/10.

There has been at least one clean sheet in each of Watford’s last five matches while there have been two goalless draws in Southampton’s last three. Bet against both teams scoring at 19/20.

Gerard Deulofeu looks to be the man most likely to score, having started up front in Watford’s last couple of matches. The Spaniard is 10/1 to open the scoring and 7/2 to score anytime.

Southampton vs Watford Premier League match preview

Watford travel to the South Coast on Saturday for their Premier League clash against Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium.

Following back-to-back clean sheet victories over Wolves and Huddersfield, Watford were expected to make it three on the spin at Newcastle last weekend.

Instead, Javi Gracia’s side lost for the fourth time this season and dropped down into 8th in the table.

Southampton and Watford met three times last season, including once in the FA Cup. Goals from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Daryl Janmaat earned Watford a 2-0 win at St Mary’s last September.

Southampton got revenge later in the season with a 1-0 home win in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Saturday’s match will be the ninth meeting between the two in the Premier League. Southampton have won three times to Watford’s two.

Blown away

Southampton remain 16th on the league following last weekend’s thrashing at Manchester City. The Saints conceded three goals either side of the break, with Danny Ings converting a consolation penalty in the first half.

Ings is Southampton’s leading scorer this season with five goals in all competitions.

Mark Hughes’ side are yet to win at St Mary’s this season, although they have picked up home draws against Newcastle, Brighton and Burnley.

Southampton team news vs Watford

Mario Lemina is expected to pass a late fitness test. The midfielder is a minor doubt following a thigh injury but should start in central midfield.

Shane Long will likely partner Danny Ings up front.

Wesley Hoedt missed training on Thursday due to a foot infection but the defender is likely to recover in time for Saturday.

Watford team news vs Southampton

Watford will be forced into making at least one change on Saturday. Etienne Capoue will serve a one-match suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.

Gracia confirmed that Nathaniel Chalobah, Ben Wilmot and Domingos Quina are all options to replace the midfielder.

Troy Deeney is back in training and should be fit enough to make the substitutes bench. Isaac Success could keep his place up front alongside Deulofeu.

Tom Cleverley is back in full training for the first time since January, meaning that Sebastian Prodl and Janmaat are Watford’s only injury absentees.

Adam Masina and Christian Kabasele provide alternatives to Jose Holebas and Adrian Mariappa from the side that lost at Newcastle.

Kiko Femenia is expected to continue at right-back in Janmaat’s absence.
