Southampton vs Leicester betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Southampton vs Leicester prediction: Southampton 1-2 Leicester

Leicester have the chance to leapfrog Manchester City and go second in the table with a win. The Foxes have never won a Premier League match on a Friday.

Southampton are hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone and are in urgent need of points.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have failed to win any of their last six Premier League matches at St. Mary’s.

Southampton vs Leicester: Who will win?

Unsurprisingly, Leicester are 5/4 favourites despite playing away from home. Southampton are 21/10 to win the match while the draw is priced at 12/5.

Six of Leicester’s last seven matches have featured three of more goals. Bet on over 2.5 goals at 10/11.

Jamie Vardy will be looking to add to his impressive tally of six goals. Vardy is 15/4 to open the scoring and 11/10 to score anytime.

Southampton vs Leicester Premier League match preview

Southampton host high-flying Leicester City at St. Mary’s on Friday night.

After nine matches, Leicester are proving to be this season’s surprise package, channeling their 2016 form. Leicester head into the match in third position but will move into 2nd place with a win over the Saints.

Jamie Vardy and Youri Tielemans scored in Leicester’s come-from-behind 2-1 win over Burnley last weekend. The victory puts Leicester onto 17 points, the same number as Chelsea, but the Foxes have a slightly better goal difference of +8.

Although no side has picked up more points than Leicester at home (13) this season, the Foxes have only won one of their four away matches, scoring four goals in those games. They’ll need to improve their performances on the road if they are to maintain their status as top four contenders.

Southampton’s three-match losing streak in the league came to an end last weekend as they held Wolves to a 1-1 draw at Molineux. Danny Ings opened the scoring before Wolves scored an equalising penalty.

The point leaves Southampton in 17th place, level on points with Newcastle. A two-goal swing is all that separates Southampton from the relegation zone.

If Southampton win on Friday they will move above Everton and Manchester United.

Southampton’s woeful home record

Southampton have the outright worst home form this season, drawing one and losing three of their four matches.

Only Norwich have conceded more home goals than Southampton’s 10. In fact, no side has picked up fewer points at home since the start of last season (24).

Southampton and Leicester have met 26 times in the Premier League. Leicester have won 10 of those matches to Southampton’s 7.

Both of last season’s encounters were won 2-1 by the away side. Demarai Gray and Harry Maguire scored Leicester’s goals at St. Mary’s last August. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was sent off in the match.

Southampton team news vs Leicester

Moussa Djenepo and Cedric Soares remain sidelined with hamstring and calf injuries respectively.

Nathan Redmond’s starting spot is at risk following some underwhelming performances. Che Adams and Shane Long are alternate options to partner Danny Ings in attack. Ings is the Saints’ leading scorer with four league goals.

Sofiane Boufal and Kevin Danso were late substitutes last weekend and will be pushing for starts.

Leicester team news vs Southampton

James Maddison is still struggling with an ankle problem, despite starting against Burnley. According to Rodgers, Maddison has hardly trained.

Doubts over Maddison’s fitness could see Dennis Praet recalled to the starting eleven.

Ayoze Perez will compete with Demarai Gray for the spot on Leicester’s right-wing. Perez started the last game but was replaced by Gray in the second half. Marc Albrighton is another wide option for Rodgers to consider.

Barring any surprises, the rest of Leicester’s side more or less picks itself.

Matty James is a long-term absentee.
