Southampton vs Bournemouth betting tips: Premier League match preview and predictions

Southampton vs Bournemouth prediction: Southampton 2-1 Bournemouth

An all South Coast clash as 14th takes on 16th at St Mary’s.

Southampton edged closer to safety in midweek but Ralph Hasenhüttl is still targeting 40 points.

Bournemouth meanwhile are mathematically safe but Eddie Howe wants improved performances ahead of next season.

There should be goals in this one.

Southampton vs Bournemouth: Who will win?

Southampton are evens to get the win that’ll guarantee safety.

Bournemouth are 13/5 to get just their sixth away win of the season.

A repeat of October’s draw is also 13/5.

Over 2.5 goals is 8/11.

Both teams to score no is 4/7.

Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score no is evens.

Southampton to win and over 2.5 goals is 15/8.

Callum Wilson has 12 goals to his name this season. He’s 9/2 to score first and 9/5 to net anytime.

Both Long and Ward-Prowse to score is 9/1.

Both Wilson and Josh King to score is also 9/1.

Southampton vs Bournemouth: Match Preview

The Saints are almost there.

On Tuesday night, despite taking the lead in the first minute, Southampton could only draw 1-1 at Watford.

Nevertheless, that point took them onto 37, six above Cardiff who are in the relegation zone.

Since taking over in December, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s only target has been 40 points.

A win here and they’ll be there.

Will the Saints ensure they’re marching into the Premier League next season?

As for the Cherries, they’ve been safe for a while but are stumbling into next season.

Last Saturday, they were beaten 1-0 at home by already relegated Fulham.

That result is made more bizarre by the fact that they won 5-0 at Brighton just 7 days earlier.

68% of Bournemouth’s points were won before Christmas emphasising how inconsistent they’ve been since then.

Overall, Bournemouth’s Premier League matches have witnessed 111 goals this season, that’s a league high.

Will there be more goals in this one?

Since he took over in mid-December, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s teams have been particularly difficult to predict.

Goalkeeper Angus Gunn has started their last 5 games and appears to be the first choice.

In defence, Jannik Vestergaard is unlikely to be fit so Jack Stephens is expected to keep his place in the back 3.

Oriol Romeu and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg have formed a strong partnership in midfield.

James Ward-Prowse is expected to start at right wing-back ahead of Yan Valery just as he has in their last 2 games.

Further forward, Stuart Armstrong got a rare start at Watford but Josh Sims is expected to come back in.

Up front, as everybody knows, Shane Long broke a Premier League record on Tuesday.

His opener at Watford came after just 7 seconds and is the fastest ever Premier League goal.

That should see him keep his place ahead of Danny Ings.

Does this Saints side have enough to see off Bournemouth?

As for Eddie Howe’s side, his squad is ravaged with injuries.

Artur Boruc has started the last 2 games and 11 of the last 13 Premier League games due to Asmir Begović’s poor form.

In defence, full-backs Adam Smith, Simon Francis, Charlie Daniels and Diego Rico are all out.

This’ll mean Nathan Aké continues to cover at left-back and they’re boosted by the return of Nathaniel Clyne.

It’ll be the same midfield as last weekend.

Lewis Cook and Andrew Surman are both injured so it’ll once again be Jefferson Lerma and Dan Gosling.

Ryan Fraser and David Brooks will support the front two.

Callum Wilson and Josh King will once again be up top.

Those two have 23 goals between them so will they add to that here?

The only teams Bournemouth have beaten away from home this season are Huddersfield, Fulham, Brighton, Watford and West Ham.

Will they add Southampton to that short list?
