Southampton vs Bournemouth betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Southampton vs Bournemouth prediction: Southampton 2-2 Bournemouth

Southampton will be looking for their first home win of the season on Friday night, but they come up against a tricky Bournemouth side.

There’s been little to separate the two so far this season; they head into the match level on points and on goal difference.

Both league meetings between the sides ended in draws last season.

Southampton vs Bournemouth betting tips: Who will win?

Home advantage means that Southampton are 21/20 favourites to win the game while Bournemouth are 12/5 to win. The draw is priced at 5/2.

Bournemouth have netted in each of their five league games this season. Both teams to score is 8/13.

Callum Wilson has three league goals already this season and has a decent record against the Saints. Wilson is 5/1 to open the scoring and 7/5 to score anytime.

Southampton vs Bournemouth Premier League match preview

Week six of the Premier League kicks off on Friday night with Southampton hosting South Coast rivals Bournemouth at St Mary’s.

Southampton are unbeaten in their last four matches in all competitions, including their 1-1 draw against Manchester United. Last weekend Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side won 1-0 away at Sheffield United. Moussa Djenepo scored the only goal of the game as the Blades finished with 10 men.

Bournemouth bounced back from their 3-1 defeat at Leicester to win by the same scoreline when they hosted Everton last Sunday. Callum Wilson opened and closed the scoring on the day, while substitute Ryan Fraser also found the back of the net.

Both the Saints and the Cherries are on 7 points after five matches, each with two wins, two defeats and a draw. Both have a goal difference of -1 but Bournemouth are one position higher in ninth due to scoring three more goals than Southampton.

Southampton have faced Bournemouth eight times in the Premier League, winning on three occasions and losing once.

The two sides played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in their last meeting at St. Mary’s in April. Shane Long, James Ward-Prowse and Matt Target scored for the home side while Dan Gosling and Callum Wilson (2) netted for the visitors.

Southampton team news vs Bournemouth

Nathan Redmond remains sidelined with a foot injury but is “making progress.”

Danny Ings and Shane Long will be pushing for starts but Che Adams is expected to keep his place up front. Likewise, dynamic winger Moussa Djenepo is expected to keep his place in the side.

Kevin Danso comes back into contention after returning from suspension, although he may have to settle for a spot on the bench.

Ryan Bertrand, Jack Stephens and Yan Valery were unused substitutes against Sheffield and may have to wait until next week’s Carabao Cup tie at Portsmouth – the real South Coast derby – to get some minutes.

Bournemouth team news vs Southampton

Eddie Howe could have as many as six first-team players missing on Friday.

Adam Smith will miss out with a hamstring injury. Jack Stacey is set to deputise at right-back.

Arnaut Groeneveld is back in training following an ankle injury but the winger is still working his way back to full fitness.

Club captain Simon Francis returned to action after nine months out in Bournemouth U21s’ 8-0 win over Basingstoke Town. Also featuring in the game was summer signing Lloyd Kelly, who is yet to play a competitive game for the Cherries.

Harry Wilson started against Everton but will face competition from Ryan Fraser.

David Brooks, Junior Stanislas, Charlie Daniels and Dan Gosling are long-term absentees.
