Southampton v Liverpool: Premier League preview
Liverpool begin the weekend as Premier League leaders.
The Reds ran riot last time out, firing 6 past Watford to go top of the table.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are unbeaten in their last 12 matches in all competitions, although they have only managed to keep three clean sheets in that time.
Southampton lie 10th in the table after suffering a surprise 2-1 defeat to Hull prior to the international break.
There could be a number of reunions on Saturday, with Sadio Mane, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana all former Saints players.
Southampton ran out 3-2 winners when the sides last met in February.
Team news: Lallana a doubt
Right-backs Matt Targett and Cedric Soares are doubts for the match, meaning Cuco Martina should start at full-back for the Saints.
Ryan Bertrand is a slight doubt but is expected to start at left-back. Sam McQueen could fill in if necessary.
Dusan Tadic and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are expected to shake off knocks ahead of the match but Shane Long will miss out with a hamstring injury.
As for Liverpool, Adam Lallana is a big doubt for the match after being withdrawn in England’s friendly international against Spain on Tuesday night.
Liverpool will assess the player’s scan results but it’s thought that his injury isn’t a serious one.
Should Lallana fail to recover in time, Gini Wijnaldum will partner Emre Can and Jordan Henderson in a three-man midfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s prolific front three of Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane will continue up top, with Daniel Sturridge set for a place on the bench.
Dejan Lovren is expected to return in defence after missing out against Watford.
