Southampton have finally named their price for Liverpool target Virgil van Dijk after the Merseysiders failed with a move in January.
The Dutch defender was one of the biggest talking points of the summer transfer window with several bids placed by Liverpool.
Now, reports this evening suggest that Southampton have asked for £70million to allow their star defender to leave.
Some even suggested they offered up to that figure during the summer window but the Saints were not willing to part with the player then.
Now, they are willing to give the player what they want and let him leave the club for a huge fee which will allow them to spend heavily.
Liverpool were even warned about a complaint to the Premier League for tapping up the player in the summer and released a statement.
That didn’t really help and the club were still looking to pursue a deal but could not find an agreement.
Even a transfer request from the player was not enough as Southampton stood firm but reports this evening suggest a deal will get done.
That will come as a huge boost to Jurgen Klopp’s side who have struggled defensively yet again this season.
Coincidentally, the news comes ahead of Liverpool’s clash with the South Coast club at the weekend and Southampton will be looking to exploit those defensive frailties.
