Southampton confirm McCarthy Covid blow ahead of Liverpool clash
Southampton have this evening confirmed a blow on the personnel front, ahead of the club’s upcoming meeting with Liverpool.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men are set to welcome the champions to St. Mary’s tomorrow night, for the final fixture of the Premier League gameweek.
The Saints will head into proceedings having seen their fine early-season form fall somewhat flat of late, on the back of three draws and a defeat from their last four.
In turn, they have slipped to 9th in the English top-flight, albeit just 3 points off the top-4 race.

Southampton’s opponents on Monday, though, have also not been in the best form of late.
Consecutive draws with West Brom and Newcastle over the course of the last week have seen Liverpool brought firmly back down to earth, allowing Manchester United to draw level with the Reds at the Premier League’s summit.
McCarthy ruled out
In turn, Hasenhuttl and co. will no doubt be wary of a potentially potent Liverpool side in search of a bounce-back result.
As outlined above, though, the hopes of the Saints of keeping the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane at bay have today been dealt a serious blow.
This comes in the form of a fresh positive test on the Covid-19 front.
The individual to have contracted the virus comes in the form of no.1 Alex McCarthy.
Speaking to the media on Sunday evening, Ralph Hasenhuttl, who himself only recently returned from self isolation, confirmed that McCarthy is set for a spell on the sidelines:
‘After the last round of tests, we have one positive case now with Alex McCarthy, so he’s out for the game on Monday and maybe also the Shrewsbury game, as he has to self-isolate for a period.’
In turn, Fraser Forster looks set to take his place between the posts at St. Mary’s in 24 hours’ time.
Ralph Hasenhüttl has confirmed @Alex_Macca23 will miss the #LFC game following a positive COVID-19 test.
