South America v Africa: Who would win?
Undoubtedly one of the finest football podcasts is the BBC 5 Live’s World Football Phone In.
On this week’s show, South American expert Tim Vickery and African guru Mark Gleeson were asked to put together their best teams from their respective regions.
What ensued was a fascinating discussion on which players would make their respective continents XI right now.
A huge week of World Cup qualifiers
This comes in a week where there will be some fascinating World Cup qualifiers in both South America and Africa.
Only Brazil have confirmed their place at next summer’s World Cup in Russia. With the likes of Argentina and Chile facing some enormous games in the coming days.
Meanwhile, in Africa, Nigeria, Egypt and Tunisia are expected to book their places this weekend.
With two of the remaining five spots set to be confirmed in November.
Could Africa live with South America’s attack?
Ultimately, when you compare the teams below, you have to wonder whether Africa could cope with South America’s incredible attacking quality.
A front line of Luis Suarez, with Neymar, Leo Messi and Alexis Sanchez behind is simply frightening!
Meanwhile, the Africa attack is also pretty awesome.
You wonder if any defence on the planet could deal with the pace of the likes of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane?
South America’s defence & midfield is much stronger
Where South America clearly have the edge is in defence and midfield.
Tim Vickery did not even pick Dani Alves in his South America back four, yet the backline and midfield is very strong.
Whilst Africa do not boast the defenders or high quality midfielders you might find in Europe.
Clearly, judging by both sides, the best goalkeepers are in Europe…
