Some of Tammy Abraham’s Chelsea teammates ‘confused’ by forward’s exclusions under Thomas Tuchel

Abraham under Tuchel

Chelsea, barring an altogether strange 5-2 hammering at the hands of West Brom over the weekend, have been pretty solid under Thomas Tuchel.

The Blues were unbeaten in 14 under the German before Saturday, having tightened up their defence to secure some big wins – including over Atletico Madrid to ensure their passage into the Champions League’s quarter-finals for the first time since 2014.

However, whilst the majority of the club’s stars have benefited from Tuchel’s arrival, Tammy Abraham has not.

The 23-year-old remains the Blues’ top scorer in all competitions this season, and their joint-top scorer in the Premier League.

Yet Tuchel appears to favour all of Olivier Giroud, Timo Werner and even Kai Havertz over the hitman.

Granted, Abraham has had some injury issues of late. But even before that, the English international had not completed 90 minutes in the league under his new boss even once.

The forward’s latest omission from the Londoners’ matchday squad came against West Brom, despite suggestions that he was fit enough to feature.

In turn, today, the Telegraph have revealed that a number of players at Chelsea have been left somewhat perplexed by Abraham’s lack of game time under Tuchel.

It is reported that the attacker, too, has been left ‘confused’ by his exclusion.

And it is easy to see why when taking into account that he remains the club’s top scorer. In addition, as the Telegraph point out, Chelsea have not scored twice from open play in any Premier League fixture without Abraham since a 3-3 draw with Southampton in October:
