Solskjaer unsure if Maguire will be fit for Man City clash after defender misses FA Cup tie with ankle problem

Derby vs Man United

Manchester United took on Championship outfit Derby County in the 5th round of the FA Cup on Thursday evening.

The Red Devils had previously seen off Wolves and Tranmere Rovers in this campaign’s competition, as they looked to add another FA Cup to their collection.

United have won the FA Cup 12 times throughout their history, last doing so in 2016.

The draw for the quarter-finals took place on Wednesday evening, with United knowing a win vs the Rams would see them face off with Norwich in the last eight.

Solskjaer unsure if Maguire can play vs Man City

Man United would release their matchday squad to take on Derby an hour before kick-off.

The 18 was fairly strong, but there was one big omission from both their starting eleven and subs. That player was Harry Maguire.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would address Maguire’s absence prior to kick-off on Thursday.

The Norwegian stated that the Man United captain rolled his ankle in training:

“I had a word with him before training yesterday that I’m not going to rest him, but then he rolled his ankle in training.”

Being without Maguire against Derby County isn’t the worst thing in the world as you would assume that they will have enough quality to see off the Championship side without him.

But they do have a huge game coming up this weekend against bitter rivals Manchester City.

And whilst OGS is hopeful that Maguire will be okay for the City tie, the Man United boss admitted that he wasn’t sure if he will be:

“He had to stay at home & hopefully he’ll be OK for the weekend (v Man City) but I’m not sure”
