Solskjaer confirms Rashford likely to go on international duty despite missing out for Man United vs Leicester

Leicester vs Man United

Sunday’s 2nd FA Cup quarter-final pitted two of the Premier League’s best against one another.

Leicester City welcomed Manchester United to the King Power, looking to join Southampton, Manchester City and Chelsea in this season’s semi-finals.

To reach the last-8, Leicester saw off Stoke, Brentford and Brighton. Manchester United had a slightly tougher route, picking up wins over Watford, Liverpool and West Ham.

Both sides, meanwhile, are no doubt desperate to secure silverware this term. Brendan Rodgers has improved Leicester a great deal, but is yet to add to the club’s trophy cabinet.

United’s progression under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not been as significant, but securing an FA Cup would no doubt help to win some fans over.

Rashford likely to link up with England

Prior to the action getting underway on Sunday, Man United, as is customary, released their starting line-up an hour before kick-off.

Solskjaer made a few interesting decisions, including benching both Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw.

There was also no place in the matchday squad for Marcus Rashford, who picked up an injury vs AC Milan earlier in the week.

Speaking on Friday, Solskjaer revealed that it was unlikely Rashford would be fit for Sunday.

But, ahead of his side’s meeting with Leicester, the United boss has since confirmed that Rashford nevertheless looks likely to link up with England for the upcoming international break:

“The doctor will speak to the English (FA) but I think he’ll travel and report [for international duty]. Maybe he’ll be fit for them.”
