Solskjaer confirms Anthony Martial could be out for rest of the season & explains why Alex Telles missed out for Man United vs Brighton

Man United vs Brighton

Sunday’s Premier League action will draw to a close at Old Trafford, as Manchester United face off with Brighton.

The Red Devils head into the clash having been handed a great chance to further extend their lead over the sides below them in the English top-flight.

United sit 2nd at present, but with Leicester, Chelsea and Tottenham having all dropped points this weekend, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. could now open an 11-point gap between themselves and 5th, which would almost guarantee their spot in next season’s Champions League.

Brighton, on the other hand, are still in the thick of the relegation battle, sitting six points above the drop ahead of kick-off on Sunday.

Martial likely to be out for rest of season

Prior to the action getting underway at Old Trafford, Man United released their startling line-up  – which saw Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford return – a short time ago.

Anthony Martial, who picked up a fitness issue during the international break, however, was not named in the squad:

And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has since provided an update on the forward, ahead of tonight’s game.

In a huge blow for United, the Norwegian confirmed that Martial could miss the rest of the season with a sprained knee:

“Unfortunately he’s [Martial] sprained his knee with France, it’s always when they go away for internationals. It’s fingers crossed and hope they’re going to come back fit — losing Anthony for what might be the rest of the season is very disappointing.”

An explanation for Alex Telles’ absence vs Brighton was also provided by the United boss:

“He was feeling a bit ill. Non-covid-related but he’s not fit enough to play but we’ve filled the bench with good quality”
