Charlie Austin vs Jonas Lossl

Will Southampton striker Charlie Austin be banned for three matches?

Charlie Austin: From hero to zero?

Southampton’s recent form has been pretty woeful but they took a half-time lead against Huddersfield thanks to another goal by Charlie Austin.

The former Burnley and QPR striker has been one of the bright spots of Southampton’s season, producing goals for Southampton on a regular basis.

Austin was in the right place at the right time to put Southampton in front against Huddersfield after 24 minutes.

Later on in the first half of the Premier League match, Austin clashed with Huddersfield goalkeeper Jonas Lossl and could well find himself in serious trouble.

Did Charlie Austin deliberately kick Jonas Lossl?

Before half-time, Austin was set free on goal and as he went for the ball with the Huddersfield goalkeeper, managed to hit Jonas Lossl.

The Huddersfield custodian was able to continue playing but had to receive plenty of treatment.

And, with referee Lee Probert completely missing the incident, there are now suggestions that Austin faces a three match ban.

Will Charlie Austin be banned?

It now seems very likely that Charlie Austin’s challenge on Jonas Lossl will be referred to the Premier League disciplinary committee.

If this is the case, Austin faces a similar punishment to the likes of Oumar Niasse (Everton) and James Tarkowski (Burnley) who have received retrospective punishments.

Southamptons’s next three matches after Huddersfield today are against: Tottenham (a), Manchester United (a) and Crystal Palace (h).
