West Ham’s stewards under fire after Burnley

West Ham’s stewards are targeted

Saturday’s scenes at the London Stadium are sure to have a lasting impact on the remainder of West Ham’s season.

In a horrible and sad event, West Ham fans stormed the pitch during the Premier League clash vs Burnley.

In the end the Irons fans ganged together in front of the directors’ box to call for the owners to go.

West Ham are sure to face a punishment for the unruly behaviour of some of their fans. Which in turn has lead many Hammers supporters to complain about the level of stewarding at their new home.

West Ham’s stewards vs Burnley

Should the stewards at West Ham’s ground have done more to stop the fans from jumping on the pitch?

What many fail to appreciate, perhaps, is that stewards are not training security officials. They aren’t equipped to deal with aggressive supporters who storm onto the field.

Yet, they obvious do play a crucial part on match-days to keep fans in check, and make sure the game-day experience is good.

Those things obvious didn’t happen against Burnley, and many fans were critical of the stewards on social media.
