Bournemouth 3 – West Ham 3
Boxing Day at the Vitality Stadium was memorable.
In a ding-dong affair that had a bit of everything, James Collins opened for West Ham in the first half before Dan Gosling made it 1-1 at the break.
Nathan Ake fired Bournemouth into the lead in the 57th minute, but then David Moyes watched his Hammers stage a fightback.
Marko Arnautovic was the hero for the Irons as he bagged a quick-fire double to swing the match in West Ham’s favour.
But in injury time Bournemouth found a 3-3 leveller through Callum Wilson.
Simon Francis vs Cheikhou Kouyate
Referee Bobby Madley was slaughter on social media by West Ham fans after the Bournemouth game.
In particular, the decision to allow Wilson’s injury time equaliser to stand had Hammers fans fuming.
And West Ham fans couldn’t believe it when the MOTD pundits reacted to a clash between Simon Francis and Cheikhou Kouyate in the match.
Francis, the Bournemouth defender, took out West Ham’s Cheikhou Kouyate with a horrific kick to the face.
Francis was booked by the official. That means he’ll not face any retrospective action.
But a yellow card for this?! Surely a red card was more appropriate for such reckless tackling?!
Not according to the MOTD pundits.
They backed up the ref’s decision to allow Francis to stay on the pitch.
In a season in which we’ve seen Sadio Mane sent off against Man City for a similar high boot challenge, how did the MOTD talking heads reach their decision?
West Ham fans have taken to social media to blast the MOTD team.
Murphy and Kilbane truly are the Madley of punditry, chortling away as they explain how kicking Kouyate in the head & the forearm smash on Obiang are acceptable. If @FA don’t charge Wilson & King & drop Madley to a pub league all credibility is shot #MOTD

Mané sent off against City for kicking keeper in head when eyes on ball. Most pundits said clear red card. Daniels on Kouyate today, kicks him head when his eyes are on the ball. Kevin Kilbane “a clear yellow card” & swept under rug. #MOTD & @GaryLineker, sort this shit out FFS.

I’m looking at MoTD in total bemusement. Kouyate was assaulted, intentional or not and Wilson cheated, simple as. Whether we deserved a point or not is totally irrelevent. Even Wilson was embarrassed to call a handball a touch of ‘magic’!

Wow. The level of punditry on MOTD is truly embarrassing. Francis endangered Kouyate with his action. Utterly clueless #MOTD

So endangering a player isn’t a red card
In no circumstance whether looking at the ball or not should a player have studs up that high that they could come in contact with a players face. Kouyate even tries to move away
MOTD pissing me off yet again red card all day everyday 💩 pic.twitter.com/2RKAooJGqM
