Wayne Rooney equals Bobby Charlton’s record

Despite struggling with injury and first team opportunities in 2016/2017, Wayne Rooney nevertheless enjoyed a terrific day on Saturday.

Rooney started for Manchester United against Reading and scored after only seven minutes, from a Juan Mata assist.

This was Rooney’s 249th goal for Manchester United, taking him level with the record holder: Bobby Charlton.

Was Rooney snubbed?

After the game though, a completely different issue erupted concerning the Manchester United captain.

Rooney went to swap shirts with Reading midfielder George Evans, who came through the ranks at Manchester City.

Evans rejected the opportunity to swap shirts with Rooney on the pitch, later citing the fact that his side had been on the back of a hammering and he preferred to swap shirts in private.

Nevertheless, BT Sport and many other news organisations made a big deal of the apparent Evans “snub”.

And, on Sunday, Rooney called out the Daily Mail for their reporting on Twitter.

Rooney’s Tweet was somewhat confusing, since the Mail on Sunday featured Rooney prominently in their sports section.

However, Rooney appears to have blasted the Daily Mail for their online content.
