Tottenham play down Erik Lamela rumours

Spurs fans worry about Erik Lamela

Although Tottenham did make some key signings at the end of the transfer window, they still look a little short in the attacking midfield positions.

The likes of Moussa Sissoko have simply not cut the mustard at Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino must be hoping Christian Eriksen does not pick up an injury this season.

Interest in the likes of Ross Barkley and Andre Gomes makes sense from a Spurs perspective, but neither player was brought in during the summer transfer window.

Whilst Barkley will not arrive until the January window at least, Tottenham do have a back-up to Christian Eriksen.

Indeed, a player that can make a significant difference to the Spurs first team: Erik Lamela.

Ricky Villa worries Tottenham fans about Erik Lamela

Last April, Erik Lamela underwent surgery on a hip injury.

Lamela’s last game for Tottenham was a League Cup defeat at Liverpool last October.

In recent days, Tottenham’s 1981 FA Cup final hero Ricky Villa appeared on Argentine radio and said:

“There is concern to know if he will play again.

In England they are worried about him, but, because of how the medicine is today, I hope he can come back.”

There were suggestions that Lamela might never play football again. His contract at Spurs ends following the completion of the 2017/2018 season.

Tottenham play down there Erik Lamela rumours

Almost as soon as the Erik Lamela rumours emerged, they have been shut down by Tottenham.

The Evening Standard report that Spurs are confident Lamela will be playing again by the end of the calendar year.

Lamela was left out of Tottenham’s Champions League squad, but this was simply as a result of his injury.

If Lamela proves his fitness, and Spurs progress, the Argentine can be included in the squad for the knockout stages in February.

Tottenham are confident Lamela will make a full recovery.
