Leeds knock out Burnley
A superb start to the season for Leeds United got better on Tuesday night in the League Cup.
The early Championship pacesetters headed to Turf Moor in the Carabao Cup to take on Premier League high-flyers Burnley.
Burnley, of course, have started the season with a couple of brilliant results.
They’ve won 3-2 at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge, while they held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Anfield last weekend.
However, Burnley were KO’ed from the cup in midweek, as Leeds triumphed in a penalty shootout after the match ended 2-2 after 120 minutes.
Chris Wood & Charlie Taylor
There was always going to be a little bit of needle in the Burnley-Leeds match.
In the summer, striker Chris Wood and defender Charlie Taylor both left Elland Road to sign out with Burnley.
Wood, in particular, left Leeds under a dark cloud as the New Zealand star refused to play for the Whites in order to force through his move to the Clarets.
Burnley fans v Ladbrokes
After Leeds won the shootout, leading UK bookie Ladbrokes posted the following tweet on social media.
That tweet, however, went down like a ton of bricks with Burnley supporters.
Why? Because Ladbrokes are an official sponsor of Burnley. Indeed, they signed a three-year deal with Burnley earlier in the summer.
Some Burnley fans are now calling for the club to end their commercial dealings with the bookie.
The upset Burnley tweets are below.
Aren't you our sponsor ? @BurnleyOfficial just sack them ! Name the stand after a player .

Burnley have a stand sponsored by Ladbrokes. I suspect there may be a grovelling apology on the way https://t.co/PAg1ZewT6H

Great to see our sponsors flying the flag proudly 😒

Surely this needs looking into… it's embarrassing for us as a club and disrespectful. Surely we don't need their money.
