Watford 2 – Southampton 2
The points were shared at Vicarage Road on Saturday as Southampton were held to a 2-2 draw at Watford.
Southampton were left the match raging after they took a 2-0 lead away against the Hornets.
Prior to Saturday, Saints midfielder James Ward-Prowse hadn’t scored all season in the Premier League.
He broke he duck for the season with a well-placed shot in the first half. And Ward-Prowse put Southampton 2-up at the break as he scored his second of the season.
But Watford hit back in the second half. Marco Silva’s side got a foothold in the match when Andre Gray found the target.
In the 90th minute Watford levelled when Abdoulaye Doucoure scored a dramatic second.
Abdoulaye Doucoure’s handball equaliser
But Watford’s leveller should never have stood.
Abdoulaye Doucoure punched the ball in back of the net.
Doucoure put his hand on the ball as he tried to score with a header. It was pretty clear to see, however the officials completely missed it.
Interestingly, as soon as the ball crossed the goal-line a group of Southampton players immediately raised their hands in protest against the handball.
Obviously those protests lead to nothing.
Is that the type of decision which suggests Southampton might be relegated this season?
The social media reaction is below.
The @FA should have the power to look at Watford’s equaliser, agree that it’s handball and remove the goal and amend the result. Absolute piss take that the country that invented football doesn’t use VAR, yet that well known football mad country called Australia does!

It’ll be interesting to see if Doucoure is charged with ‘deceiving the officials’ after his equaliser for Watford. It was handball. Why not? It’s deception.

If we are introducing bans for diving then surley Doucoure should receive a three match ban for his blatant handball and deceiving an official🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️

How have the officials missed a blatant handball from Doucoure! The ref should get a 3 match ban for disgraceful decision making! #bbcfootball

I thought Maradona’s handball was the worst I’d ever and then there Doucoure’s today. Probably the most shocking decision I’ve ever seen. But if you sit back & let opponents play you run the risk of it happening. #PELLEGRINO has to go, tactically inept #saintsfc

Seriously, if one incident this season shows why we need VAR it's the Doucoure goal for Watford in the 90th minute. Absolutely blatant handball and it could cost #SaintsFC's manager his job & it did cost Southampton a priceless 3 points.
