Following an incredible afternoon at Wembley stadium which saw Reading and Huddersfield go head-to-head for a spot in next season’s Premier League, social media have reacted in typically brilliant fashion to news of the latter’s promotion.
An uninspiring 90 minutes were followed by an equally uneventful 30 minutes of extra-time between the Championship sides, as a hugely cagey affair looked destined to be decided via a shootout.
12 yards out
And spotkicks were exactly what ensued…
After Reading comfortably slotted home their opening two strikes, the Royals looked to be in the driving seat when Huddersfield’s Michael Hefele provided the first miss of the day.
However, following both sides coolly converting their third penalties, a pair of misses from Reading’s Liam Moore and Jordan Obita left Town’s Christopher Schindler with the chance to send his club to the top tier of English football.
And he did not disappoint, slotting a precision strike into the bottom left corner to send fans of the Terriers into delerium.
Twitter users were following every step of the way, with some of the highlights below:

Bravo Huddersfield! 19th last season, budget similar to Rotherham. Shows if you get your system & set-up right it’s not all about money ⚽️👏
