Leicester 2 – Juan Mata 2
Manchester United were left to rue some woeful finishing at Leicester on Saturday evening.
It was the final game of a hectic day in the Premier League and Leicester turned on the style with a classic counter attack to take the lead.
Riyad Mahrez found himself in acres of space and played a delightful cushioned ball in for Jamie Vardy to make it 1-0.
Vardy has now scored 50 Premier League goals and his record against the “Big Six” is super impressive.
Juan Mata scores a rare brace
Juan Mata was the man who turned the game around for Manchester United. The Spaniard scored his first brace in the Premier League since a match at Liverpool in 2015.
The first Mata goal came via a Jesse Lingard assist.
Mata’s second looked to be the winner, and came in the second half from a simply brilliant free-kick, that was impressively placed past Kasper Schmeichel.
Manchester United fans not happy
Even when it looked like they were cruising to victory, fans of the Red Devils had plenty to moan about.
For the first goal, Manchester United defenders Chris Smalling, Ashley Young and Phil Jones were all criticised.
And, throughout the match, Manchester United missed key chances.
Anthony Martial missed a sitter. Jesse Lingard hit the post after rounding Schmeichel.
Whilst substitute Marcus Rashford also failed to score when presented with a one-on-one chance.
Then came the final blow for Manchester United: Harry Maguire’s late late equaliser for Leicester. 2-2 full time.
Cue dissatisfied Manchester United fans on Twitter:
I just can’t warm to Phil Jones and never will no matter how hard I try!! There’s just always a mistake in him waiting to happen, he’s constantly sleeping and brutal on the ball #wick

Really not a fan of a Phil Jones and Chris Smalling centre back partnership. So open at the back. Shambles.

How is Young getting a free pass here? He’s level with Mahrez when we lose the ball and in a different postcode by the time Mahrez gets it

Chris Smalling is so stupid, I don’t know how he’s survived this long in life nevermind top-level football.

If United don't win from here, Martial and Lingard are walking home.

Martial and Lingard ruined 2 amazing assists for Lukaku. Like seriously they couldn't have asked for better passes. Feel for him.

Martial first, Lingard next and now Marcus Rashford. Manchester United need to convert these chances. Should have already scored four goals at least. #MUFC

If we don’t win this, that Lingard miss is going to haunt us. Thought we couldn’t get a worse miss than Martial’s when through on goal. Awful.

If Martial or Rashford created those and Lukaku missed I would've complained. Martial, Lingard, Rashford, Mkhitaryan… fuck y'all
