Radamel Falcao

Radamel Falcao accused of fixing Peru v Colombia

Colombia qualify, Peru in the playoffs

In the end a 1-1 draw was good for both Peru and Colombia on Tuesday night in Lima.

And, as a result, Copa America holders Chile have missed out on a spot at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

After a goalless first half in the Peruvian capital, James Rodriguez fired Colombia into the lead following an assist from Radamel Falcao.

But Peru levelled the game in the 76th minute when national treasure Pablo Guerrero fired home the equaliser.

The result meant Colombia finished in fourth place, automatically booking their place at next summer’s World Cup.

Peru, meanwhile, finished fifth. They now face a two-legged play-off against New Zealand in one final hurdle.

Radamel Falcao accused of fixing

Towards the end of the Peru v Colombia game, Monaco star Radamel Falcao started getting very chatty with his opposition.

Falcao covered his mouth with his hand as he talking to the Peru players.

What was El Tigre trying to hide from the cameras?

The answer seemed to be provided by the Peruvian reactions to Falcao’s chat. Immediately afterwards ‘calm down’ signals were being transmitted around the Peru team.

It seemed pretty clear that Falcao told Peru to stop going for the win as a draw benefitted both nations.

Arsenal rift: David Ospina KOs Alexis Sanchez

The really losers of the night in South America were Chile.

And one suspects Alexis Sanchez won’t be best pleased with David Ospina when the pair meet up at Arsenal.

Arsenal’s goalie made critical errors in Colombia’s two final World Cup qualifiers, which helped to end Chile’s Russian dreams.

Ospina conceded two terrible goals against Paraguay, while he reacted terribly to Pablo Guerrero’s free-kick last night.
