Why Pedro & Thibaut Courtois missed Chelsea vs Tottenham

Chelsea vs Tottenham

When the team sheets came out on Sunday before Chelsea vs Tottenham, there’s no doubt what the headline story was.

Just three weeks after his horror injury at Bournemouth, Harry Kane was back in the Tottenham matchday squad.

Kane was deemed fit enough to start against the Blues. Instead he took up his spot on the bench.

Yet there were also a few other surprised in the line-ups, which read as follows.

Chelsea: Caballero, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger, Moses, Kante, Fabregas, Alonso, Willian, Hazard, Morata

Subs: Eduardo, Cahill, Emerson, Drinkwater, Bakayoko, Hudson-Odoi, Giroud

Tottenham: Lloris, Trippier, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Davies, Dier, Dembele, Lamela, Alli, Eriksen, Son

Subs: Vorm, Aurier, Rose, Wanyama, Sissoko, Lucas, Kane

Why Pedro & Thibaut Courtois missed the Tottenham game

One of the most obvious changes to the Chelsea XI was in goal.

Willy Caballero started between the sticks, while there was no place for Thibaut Courtois in the squad.

Courtois’s omission wasn’t a complete surprise, after the Chelsea stopper picked up a hamstring injury during the international break with Belgium.

However, a much bigger shock in the Chelsea line-up was the absence of Pedro for the Spurs game.

The Spaniard has been a consistent starter for Antonio Conte in recent times, and few expected his no-show.

The rumours are that Pedro is ill, although Chelsea fans are awaiting confirmation of that.
