Newcastle fans loved what Jonjo Shelvey did to Palace’s Yohan Cabaye

Newcastle 1 – Crystal Palace 0

A late goal from Mikel Merino gave Newcastle three big points on Saturday against Crystal Palace.

Merino scored from an 84th minute corner to deflate Palace’s confidence after last weekend’s win against Chelsea.

The result leaves Palace four points adrift from safety at the bottom of the table.

As for Newcastle, they are up to 6th in the Premier League with 14 points on the board after nine matches.

Yohan Cabaye’s rough return

The away trip at St James’ Park was a rough outing for French midfielder Yohan Cabaye.

The former Newcastle player had the home fans baying for blood for his went through DeAndre Yedlin in the first half.

Cabaye was given a yellow card, although the foul could easily have seen Cabaye red carded instead.

Later in the game, when Merino found the target, Jonjo Shelvey reacted to the goal by getting in Cabaye’s face.

With the Palace midfielder strewn on all fours, Shelvey gestured directly in Cabaye’s face.

Shelvey’s reaction went down well with the Newcastle supporters.
